The Topeka Daily Capital printed an early projection of the Kansas governor's race between Republican incumbent Robert Bennett and Democratic hopeful John Carlin, who was Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives. As this issue shows, the paper called the race for Bennett initially and ran headlines and articles declaring Bennett the winner. John Carlin actually won the election becoming the state's fortieth governor.
